The retirement home next door to the school provides a fantastic opportunity for students to give back to their local community. We walk down together afterschool every few weeks to either provide general IT assistance with a drop-in session down at the retirement home (E.g., setting up their new phone or laptop). Alternatively, we have special events where we present to guests at Knightsbridge on a new topic of their preference. Past topics have included an introduction to social media and Artificial intelligence.
These sessions provide a great way to build more skills in knowledge within Digital Technology and allow students to get an insight into the lives of our neighbours who always have great stories and experiences to share. This is a club flexible with other activities as sessions are regular and continuous throughout the year, and it’s not expected that students must attend every time.
Students will need to assist twice in an IT Assist Club help or presentation session to qualify having this activity added onto their student profiles.
