BACKOn Thursday 27 March, we took 13 of our special olympians to compete in an Athletics day at AUT Millennium. Our students represented Rangitoto College with pride, respect, integrity and excellence as they competed against other schools in track events such as walking, running, wheelchair and relay. They also had the opportunity to try their hand at shot put, long jump, javelin and soft ball throwing.
Our athletes left nothing on the track and gave their all to each and every event. Special mention has to be made of our winning relay team, Jason, Allen, Emily and Benji who managed to take out the top spot against Takapuna in the last two metres!!
One of our favourite parts of the day was seeing how encouraging and how much manaakitanga our Rangitoto students showed for their fellow athletes. Thanks to all our staff involved in this lovely day, from setting up gazebos to supporting our students on the field.
