After nearly a decade, Rangitoto College is proud to have a competitive girls’ touch team back in action at the premier level. The last time a Rangitoto girls’ team competed in the top grade was 2017, making this achievement a historic moment for the school.
The girls have shown incredible dedication, working tirelessly to prepare for their promotion-relegation game after securing gold in the local North Harbour Schools’ competition in 2024. They first faced off against Mt Albert Grammar in a seeding match to determine their ranking in the wider Auckland region. In a tightly contested battle, the team narrowly lost 4-3 in a thrilling see-saw encounter.
The real test came in the next match against Baradene College, where the outcome would determine whether Rangitoto would remain in the local competition or advance to the Auckland premier competition. Rising to the occasion, the girls delivered an outstanding performance and secured their promotion, earning their place among Auckland’s top teams.
Congratulations to coaches Maraea Rameka and Brownz, along with our premier girls squad: Casey Boyd, Isla Laursen, Jayda Meek, Luca Aporo, Maddison Skelton, Maia Rhodes, Natalie Campbell, Nyla Spencer, Olivia Apperley, Paris Robertson, Rea Simpkins, Rebecca Robertson, and Ryen Anderson.
The team now sets its sights on an even bigger goal—qualifying for the New Zealand Secondary Schools (NZSS) Nationals at the end of the year. Meanwhile, the next wave of competitive girls is also making their mark in the North Harbour competition, showcasing great skills, determination and enthusiasm. Coached by Mr Moorhead, these rising talents will be pushing for a place in the premier team come 2026.
