Commerce Competitions

In Term 3, Commerce students entered a number of competitions to varying degrees of success. The National Secondary School Case Competition, run by the University of Auckland, had one of our groups present their research to a panel of industry experts. They ranked in the top five nationwide, despite only entering this competition for the first time ever. Representing the group was a mix of Year 13 Business Studies and IB Economics students; Summer Bailey, Rui-Yi Ong, Sini Patel, and Alessandra Sng.

Meanwhile, our Commerce Department students were proudly represented in two categories of the NZCETA Pursuits Quiz also run by the University of Auckland. In the Business Studies category, our top Year 13 students achieved a respectable 4th place, beating many other Auckland schools and very narrowly missing out on a podium finish. Representing the Business Studies team were Dorothy Huang, Jordan Little, and Rui-Yi. Furthermore, our Year 12 IB Economics students placed 3rd in their category which was an impressive performance against predominantly Year 13 teams. Representing the Economics team were Edward Fung, Michael Ratliff, Yolanda Zhang, and Jewel Wu.

Chelsea Field Trip

Term 3 marked a return to our previous traditions. Business Studies resumed field trips, the first since the Covid-19 lockdowns, to enrich our students’ learning experience through real-world insights. Our Year 13 students took a trip to the Chelsea Sugar Factory to gain an in-depth look at how a globally recognised business, known for quality sugar exports, operates. During the tour, students got an inside look at how sugar is made in a factory where a ‘big highlight’ came in the form of a sugar mountain. Students also got a taste of sweetness from a selection of Chelsea’s products and had a private café experience.

Market Day

The Year 11 Market Day was also a very eventful day this term as our Business Studies students catered for a big 1st XV rugby game hosted by the school. Students sold a variety of goods that showcased both local and international cultures including brigadeiros, churros, sushi, sago, dumplings, and the classic cookies and muffins.

The photos speak for themselves highlighting the culmination of our students’ hard work in the form of their wonderful Market Day offerings full of food, drinks, and more!
