He aha te kai a te rangatira? He kōrero, he kōrero, he kōrero
On the 14th of June, one of our Year 10’s Kawharu (Vincent) Porter competed in Ngā Manu Kōrero ki te Waitematā. Ngā Manu Kōrero is the Auckland regional Māori speech competition which was held at Ngā Puna o Waiōrea this year. Kawharu competed in the ‘Rawhiti Ihaka’ (Junior Māori) section of the competition and spoke about ‘Ngā pūrākau, he kura huna kei roto’ (The hidden meaning behind the many stories that our people hold). He came out with the ‘Best Junior Male Speaker’ award. Overall, it was an amazing day for Kawharu and a special experience for our other tauira that went along to tautoko him. I am proud to say that he stood beautifully in his mana and embodied the values of te iwi Māori.
