This term we had our Library Week. Blast Off Into Reading was the theme for this year’s Library Week and our specially made rocket ship took pride of place in the library. Students had a lot of fun with competitions, games, puzzles, a sticker mosaic, and a photo booth. Congratulations to all our winners.
We were delighted to have Tessa Duder visit the library on 12 September to talk to our Year 9 students. Tessa spoke of her life, and what an exciting life it has been. She represented New Zealand in swimming at the Empire Games and won two medals. She wrote her first book at 38 which was followed by multiple other books. Her novel, Alex Quartet, has just been reprinted for its 40th anniversary. She has sailed on the Spirit of New Zealand sailing ship and has visited Scott Base in Antarctica. The awards she has won include, the Esther Glen Award for contribution to New Zealand literature (three times), the Margaret Mahy Medal, and numerous storylines awards throughout the years. It was a pleasure to have a writer of her calibre come to our school.
