EVolocity is a national competition in which secondary school teams design, build, and race electric vehicles regionally and then in a national competition. At Rangitoto College EVolocity, our teams have been working hard to get our designs completed and commence our builds. For the 2023 season, we have new partnerships with Z Energy and Invenco Group Limited who are our title sponsors for this year. We are grateful to our sponsors for their ongoing support of the team.
This year will see Rangitoto College have two teams competing in the EVolocity competition. One team is made up of highly skilled Year 12 students who will be competing in the Competition Class which is the top class of the competition. We will also see a team of proficient Year 11 students who will be competing in the Standard Class which is the introductory class of the competition. The Year 12 team is providing mentorship to the Year 11 team and we hope to develop a team capable of going toe to toe with the best. The end-of-year event features demonstrations and showcases from around Auckland of test drives of electric bikes, go-karts, and motorbikes. This event allows students from all over Auckland to come together with their various skill sets and knowledge to create something truly special.
Last Wednesday, Rangitoto College EVolocity teams made their way over the bridge to The University of Auckland’s Engineering Department for our first event: Launch Day. We joined teams from all over the Auckland region to go over the parameters of the competition. We were excited to also view clubs such as Women in Engineering and their Formula SAE team. After the presentation, we enjoyed a pizza lunch and a tour of the facility, learning about a range of engineering departments from mechatronics to control engineering through really interesting demonstrations of engineering innovation.
We look forward to continuing to share our journey with you and are looking forward to the season ahead.
