It has been truly an awesome experience reviving Junior Shakespeare this year. After two years of not being able to put this wonderful production on, this year’s version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was a hit. Four groups of students from across Years 9 and 10 presented an abridged version of the play in the Sound Garden.
Led by an awesome team of teachers, Carmelita Maletino, Ye Sul Kim, Tom Vladingerbrook, Andrew Bian, Siwan Gwynne, Amy Berends, and myself, we ended up with an entertaining performance that couldn’t be beaten. In true Shakespearean style, the play was performed outdoors, open to the elements. The groups all had different directors and different casts for the different scenes in the play. It was a hit!
Friends, family, and classmates all came along to laugh with the cast at the antics of many different Pucks and Oberons. The enthusiasm we teachers were greeted with at rehearsals was uplifting, to say the least. This enthusiasm was maintained every week and brought energy and life to the production. It is only with that enthusiasm that this production was put together in only five weeks.
A special thanks to all of the students who helped behind the scenes, working with props and hyping up the audience. This production would not have been as successful without them.
