Rangitoto Volleyball players and coaches contributed hugely to the Interprovincial Competition held over Queen’s Birthday in Wellington. Harbour teams dominated the competition winning five out of the eight divisions.
No one had a better weekend than our Premier captain and Outstanding leader Kaia Buckley. She led the Under 17 team to victory, the team dropping just one set in seven matches. She was named MVP at the awards ceremony. This came on top of her leading Rangitoto College to victory in the Auckland Secondary Schools Championships. Not surprising she is also an outstanding Beach Volleyball player.
Rangitoto Representative Honours:
GOLD Under 17 Girls: Kaia Buckley – MVP, Taylor Braddock, Annais Blanchard, Jenny McMillian
GOLD Under 19 Girls: Manon Bonar, Sienna Rugg
Under 17 Boys: James Haslam, Eric Oh, Cuba Rihara, Will Schmidt, Logan Vorster
Under 19 Boys: Connor Campbell, Flynn Little
Additionally, a huge congratulations also go to Rangitoto students Kiana Stevenson and Ryan Jefferson, who have just returned from playing in the Asian Under 19 Championship in Thailand representing New Zealand. They came through a very testing selection process to be chosen to be part of a combined team of only eight players. They experienced playing against the world Beach Volleyball powerhouses of Thailand, China, Australia, and Malaysia in the extreme heat of Thailand, recording wins on the way. Ryan, earlier in the year, travelled to Australia and won the Australian Under 19 beach national title. Huge futures ahead for these fine athletes who will be challenging for titles at the NZ Secondary Schools Beach Nationals in February with their Rangitoto partners.
