On Tuesday 10th May, the school held its first full school cross country event in a number of years. After not being able to hold this event in full capacity, due to the disruption of Covid-19, it was great to have so many students participating with all of Year 9 and all of Year 10 taking part.
In a great collaboration between the Sports Department and the Physical Education Department, three main races were held throughout the day. First up was Year 9, followed by Year 10, and the day was rounded out with senior competitive students from Years 11 to 13. All students completed a challenging 3km course around the school with a number of steep hills and obstacles.
From this event, our top male and female runners were selected to compete at the North-Western Zones cross country event. This event was held on Tuesday 17th May at Moire Park.
In total 32 students represented Rangitoto College at this event with some great individual and team achievements. Our Junior Girls six-person team placed first, our Junior Boys six-person team placed second, our Junior Girls three-person team placed second, and our Intermediate Girls three-person team placed third. A special mention goes to Isla Westlake who placed second overall in the Senior Girls 4km race.
We then had 10 students represent Rangitoto College at the Auckland Championships held at Lloyd Elsmore Park. This event involved the best runners from schools across Auckland and despite wet conditions all of our athletes performed with real merit at this challenging event.
