Maggie Winterstein
Chair: Parent Representative

Ms Winterstein has over 20 years practice as a lawyer, currently specialising in Youth Advocacy.   She has governance experience as a board member of Youthline and the Rise UP Trust and has also been actively involved with a wide variety of children-centred organisations.   She is a committee member of the Pacific Lawyers Association and a member of the South Auckland Bar Association. 

Ms Winterstein lives in Browns Bay and is married to David Hodge.  As such, she has had a close association with Rangitoto College for the past 13 years.  Their daughters, Caitlin and Charlotte, currently attend the College.

Ms Winterstein fervently believes in the transformative power of education and aims to support the school in continuing to deliver a well-rounded, world class education.

Jason Buckley
Deputy Chair: Parent Representative

Deputy Chair: Mr Jason Buckley

Mr Buckley has 30 years’ experience in the New Zealand Travel Industry, holding General Management and Senior Executive Leadership roles across areas of finance, leadership, relationship management, human resources and business strategy. Mr Buckley currently owns a number of Retail Travel Agencies across the Auckland area, two of which are located on the North Shore.

Mr Buckley lives locally in Mairangi Bay with his wife Mary and their two daughters, who both attend Rangitoto College.

Craig Offwood
Parent Representative

Mr Offwood has had a career largely in the financial services sector. In mid-2022 he moved on from a senior leadership role in the ANZ Private Bank team, joining boutique financial planning business Rutherford Rede as an Adviser.

Mr Offwood was raised on the North Shore and has been living in Mairangi Bay, with his wife Ange and two teenage daughters, for over 17 years. Both daughters have now graduated from Rangitoto College and will be studying at AUT.

Chris Dalton
Parent Representative

Chris Dalton lives locally in Campbell’s Bay with his wife Joanna, and their 3 Boys. Jack and Josh have both recently graduated from Rangitoto College, and their youngest boy Flynn, still attends the College.  Joanna is an ex Rangitoto College Student. Chris was born and raised in Castor Bay, and attended the local Primary, Intermediate and High Schools. Chris then graduated from Unitec, Studying Construction and Quantity Surveying, and has over 30 years’ experience in Commercial Construction, in Auckland, and Sydney Australia. Chris is currently the Managing Director at Astley Construction, which is locally based in Mairangi Bay. Astley’s core business is Commercial Construction with an emphasis on Educational Projects. Chris has delivered over 100 Schooling Projects with Astley Construction in the past 15 years, ranging from small ILE Upgrades to Large Classroom Roll Growth Projects. He has a great understanding of the Ministry’s Building Programme, Funding, Rules, Regulations and Processes, Health + Safety, Quality Assurance and Governance.

Zhen (Frank) Jia
Parent Representative

Mr. Jia and his wife were originally from China and have settled in North Shore since 2006.  Their daughter is currently a student, while their son plans to join Rangitoto College in a couple of years.

Mr. Jia has an academic/work background in the areas of Law and Finance. His current career is in marketing and project management, as well as being the Manager of International Services at one of the local schools. Mr. Jia is committed to provide the best support he can to the board and the community.

Alan Kerr
Staff Representative

Mr Kerr has over 40 years’ experience teaching predominately Health and Physical Education, including the primary sector and Westlake Boys High School. He is married to Gabi Kerr and have two older children. He attended Rangitoto College himself as did his daughter.

Mr Kerr’s previous experience with boards has been in a sporting context being chairperson of Harbour Volleyball for over five years. Mr Kerr absolutely believes in the whole education package Rangitoto College offers and is proud to be representing the hard working and passionate staff.

Will Schmidt
Student Representative

Will Schmidt will continue to be the student representative for 2024. Will will be a Year 13 student in 2024 and represents the College in various sporting and leadership positions. Will takes extreme pride in his role as the student representative and during his appointment in the position, he intends to have a positive contribution to the board in the interest of the student body. Will is open to discussing any student issues or requests and will advocate for his peers at the monthly board meetings.

Patrick Gale
Principal of Rangitoto College

Mr Gale joined the College as Principal in July 2017.  Before joining us he was Principal of Kaipara College, having previously been Associate Headmaster at Rosmini College.

Mr Gale completed a Masters in Educational Leadership at AUT following his initial degree studies in Geography at University College, London.  Mr Gale and his family have lived in Mairangi Bay for the past 19 years.  His wife Kate is also a teacher and they have one daughter attending Rangitoto, with another studying Commerce and Property at the University of Auckland.

The Board will ensure in the development of the Strategic Plan that there will be meaningful consultation with the local iwi, school leadership, parents, teachers and students of the College.
