Our Year 12 Gateway students were fortunate enough to attend a Road Safety Education workshop, run by RYDA with support from the Rotary Club.

The workshops are catered to 16–17 year olds and challenge students to change the way they think about road safety and lay the foundation for safe road use throughout their lives.

This aims to increase an understanding of road safety issues, educate students about their rights and responsibilities, and equip them with the tools they need to choose behaviours that lead to safer outcomes on our roads.

Students attended six interactive workshops, where they were given information on incorporating critical risk assessment skills, an understanding of themselves (whether a driver or a passenger), and strategies that will equip them to be safe on the road.

Students also watched a speed test in action to see how far a car travels at different speeds even though it has hit the brakes. Plus, they attended a presentation by an amazing lady who survived a near-death crash due to fatigue and distraction.

Overall, the students received a wealth of knowledge and education on road safety that will hopefully last them a lifetime.
