In this issue, we highlight a variety of events we have showcased in Term 3. From our incredible Arts Week to our growing girls’ rugby programme, Rangitoto College continues to offer a range of opportunities within our kura.

Principal’s Report

Acting Principal Fay Meiklejohn reflects on a busy and productive Term 3. Our community have enjoyed seeing students perform in sports, and on the stage, through events like our Dance Showcase and winters sports' tournaments.

Year 11 Diploma

As a kura we are excited about the Rangitoto College Year 11 Diploma that will be introduced in 2024. We are confident that this will equip our students with the academic knowledge, self-confidence and motivation to successfully transition into NCEA Level 2 in 2025....

Music News

Our Music Department share news about their amazing music competition successes and showcase their delectable delights from recent music concerts....

International Baccalaureate

Our International Baccalaureate family welcomes two new students, Alek and Onyu. The cohort has had a tremendous term engaging in academics, sports, and community activities that cultivate International Baccalaureate learner traits such as risk-taking and skills development....

DanceNZmade

Our Dance Department has swept audiences away with their range of choreography and style, resulting in an impressive array of awards at DanceNZmade....

Programming

We have had outstanding academic success in both international and national high school programming competitions this year, with our ākonga among the top four students in the country....

Rugby

This year saw the number of students wanting to play rugby increase immensely. For the first time, we had an Under 15 Girls team which saw an exceptionally excellent 2023 season. Our Youth 15 Boys team were undefeated in 2022 and went on to win the Youth 16 North Harbour Competition this year....

Arts Week

Our annual Arts Week had something for everyone! Events included Battle of the Bands, theatre games, Just Dance, and Rangi's Got Talent....

Year 12 Leadership Programme

Our Year 12 Leadership Programme was developed for our students to gain insights and skills that will shape their future journey and decision making....

Puffs: Drama Company

We took on the incredibly funny production of Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic, by Matt Cox. Due to the amount of talented students we have, we made two casts. Both casts were outstanding and had great success at the Pumphouse Theatre....

Textiles

Term 3 has been exceptionally busy in the Textiles Department with our talented students creating an eclectic array of costumes for our annual fashion show....

Book Corner

This term Assistant Principal Olivia Newman and Spanish teacher Leo Mendes share what enthralls them about reading, what they love about their family and our kura library, and what recent books they have found engaging....

Esports

Our esports competitors have achieved considerable success for Rangitoto College. Our top Fortnite team placed first in the country and our top League of Legends team placed second in New Zealand....

Volleyball

We are very proud of talented Kalea Norton, a Year 12 student, who was named in the New Zealand Open Womens Volleyball Team (Volley Ferns) which travelled to Chile. Kalea is the youngest member of the Volley Ferns and it was a fantastic achievement to play in the first overseas tournament since 2019....

Guidance Report

In this issue we explore respectful relationships. At the heart of healthy personal and social development, respectful relationships form the basis of how young people will interact with the world around them, shaping their friendships, family dynamics, and future romantic relationships....

Art Exhibitions

A selection of outstanding work from our student artists was on display in Artrageous at the Mairangi Bay Arts. Our annual school exhibition is also coming up in the first week of Term 4, in the David Hodge Performing Arts Building....

Library Week

This term we had our Library Week. Students had a lot of fun with competitions, games, puzzles, a sticker mosaic, and photo booth. Congratulations to all our winners. We were delighted to have Tessa Duder visit the library on to talk to our Year 9 students....

Pathways Evening

The Careers Department were delighted to host their Pathways Evening designed to help students make informed decisions about their subjects for next year and beyond. They also introduced their new online Pathways Experience to allow even more students and whānau to access subject information for 2024....

Red Cross

Our Red Cross student group have been working hard to increase the awareness of the Red Cross mission in the community, as well as providing fundraising support....

Special Olympics

We took 15 of our students to a Special Olympics Football Ribbon Day at the Massey University Recreation Centre in Albany. All students gave their best efforts as for many of them this was their first Special Olympics experience. They won all of their games and came top of their group....

Summit Academy

Our prestigious Summit Academy Gala Dinner was held on Friday 18 August in the Auditorium where we welcomed alumni, parents, staff, and friends of our community to celebrate four honoured graduates of the college: Nigel Avery, Jenene Crossan (Ngāi Tahu), Peter Connor, and Erica Stanford....

NCEA Revision and Exam Preparation Classes

Open to any student from any school for Maths, English, and Science
Our NCEA Revision and Exam Preparation classes are starting soon, and it’s not too late to sign up to learn valuable study skills! These classes are held at Rangitoto College over a range of dates, taught by experienced teachers with small class sizes, for students from all schools, available in Science, Maths, and English, as well as general study workshops, and available for Levels 1, 2, and 3.

Rangitoto College is proud to be a founding school within the Auckland Schools’ Teacher Trainee Programme.
We are now recruiting our future trainee teachers for 2024.
