Big Sing Choral Festival
Four Rangitoto College choirs took part in the Auckland Regional Big Sing on 22 June, with The Fundamentals, Serenata, and The Minuettes gaining Highly Commended awards. Serenata was then selected as one of 12 choirs to take part in the Upper North Island Big Sing Cadenza in August—bringing home a Korimako (Silver) Award and some wonderful memories.
Music Events
Concertos & Cookies
Almost 200 students performed in a packed auditorium at our annual Concertos & Cookies concert on Sunday 25 June. The audience eagerly devoured melt-in-the-mouth cookies (professionally baked, packaged, and labelled by the unbeatable team from Food Technology) and sipped on cups of tea, while enjoying a spectacular smorgasbord of music from our Concert Band, Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Orchestra, and two Chamber Trios. We were delighted to welcome a strong contingent of supporters from Knightsbridge Village, as well as families, friends, and teachers.
A Choral Confection
Our final showcase in the Music Department calendar, A Choral Confection, is always a delightful way to round off our concert series, and this year was no exception. Our audience was issued with confectionery on arrival before being treated to melt-in-the-mouth programmes from our four choral ensembles, interspersed with sweet vocal solos and duos. A highlight of the evening was having a student from each choir conduct their ensemble for one programme item. It seems there are some future choral directors in our midst.
