Music Events
Rock & Rocky Road
On Thursday 25 May our third annual Rock & Rocky Road event was held—and what a night it was! A full house of supporters was treated to delicious slabs of Rocky Road slice made by our amazing Food Technology staff and students, whilst enjoying original music and covers from 11rock bands, four duos, and three solo acts, all amidst a spectacle of lighting and stage smoke. Our rock musicians did themselves proud on stage and off, with some incredible songwriting abilities showcased.
Jazz Happy Hour
Due to the number of ensembles in our Jazz Programme, we made the decision to split our Jazz Club event into two parts—and Jazz Happy Hour was born! Held on Friday 26 May at 4 pm, Rangitoto staff, residents from Knightsbridge Village, and parents of performers were entertained by Newport, Leverkusen, Manawatu, Java, and Copenhagen combos, with Year 9 Big Band rounding off the hour of jazz. The Auditorium was transformed into a cosy club space with small tables, lots of lamps and moody lighting to set the scene, and the audience loved it so much that many of them came along two days later to our Sunday Jazz Club. It’s safe to say that Jazz Happy Hour is on the calendar to stay.
Jazz Club
Now considered an “older sibling” since the arrival of Jazz Happy Hour, we really stepped things up for Jazz Club on Sunday 28 May. More lamps, elevated staging, more lighting, stage smoke, and all the microphones we could find —Jazz Club undoubtedly lived up to its long-standing reputation, with yet another full house of joyful supporters and a whole new lineup of ensembles. The jazz staff, along with student pianist Yule Chon, provided the arrivals entertainment, followed by outstanding sets from North Sea, Montreux and Stockholm combos, then Junior Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra and Big Band.
Concertos & Cookies
On Sunday 25 June, our five co-curricular orchestral and concert band ensembles presented their annual Concerto and Cookies showcase. Check out our Facebook to see photos of this event.
