BACKRangitoto College is thrilled to announce its partnership with the Chip Packet Project NZ, an innovative initiative brought to New Zealand by the visionary Terrena Griffith. Originating in the United Kingdom in 2019, the Crisp Packet Project (CPP) aims to repurpose foil packets and single-use plastics into survival sheets and bedding for those facing homelessness or living in areas affected by disaster. By joining forces with CPPNZ, Rangitoto College is taking a bold step towards reducing waste and providing comfort to those in need.
Transforming waste into something useful
Did you know that a chip packet can take up to 80 years to decompose in a landfill? It’s a startling fact, but now we have an opportunity to make a difference. CPPNZ transforms what would otherwise be discarded as rubbish into valuable resources. By collecting foil packaging from students and staff, Rangitoto College actively contributes to repurposing these materials, reducing waste, and positively impacting our community.
Creating survival sheets and bedding
Through the concerted efforts of our school community, we gather and clean the foil packaging, preparing it for the CPPNZ fusion blanket events held across New Zealand. It takes approximately 44 foil packets to create a single sheet, and the impact of this small action is tremendous. By channelling our collective efforts into repurposing these materials, we extend comfort and warmth to those facing adversity.

Students can find drop-off stations at various locations on campus. Local foil recycling can be dropped off at 9D Airborne Road, Rosedale.
