Back in December, a group of 12 students represented Rangitoto College at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Track and Field/Road Race Championships held at the TET Stadium in Inglewood, Taranaki.
All athletes competed to a high level in very challenging conditions. It was great to see many of our athletes making it through to the quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals with some personal bests being achieved as a result.
Our athletes came away with a total of six podium results (four individual and two relays).
Congratulations to the following students who received medals in their respective events:
- Nadja Kumerich – 2nd Senior Girls Hammer Throw and 3rd Senior Girls Shot Put
- Nyla Spencer – 3rd Junior Girls 300 m Hurdles
- Talaya Vorster – 1st= Junior Girls Pole Vault
Further congratulations go to our Junior Girls Relay team (Nyla Spencer, Mackenzie Guy, Emma Young, and Kenzie Bowden) who, for the first time, competed together in the 4×100 m and 4×400 m relay events.
This team ran two outstanding races, winning the 4×100 m race and placing 2nd in the 4×400 m race.
We look forward to seeing all these athletes back in action again this year!
